It’s about freakin time somebody started asking questions about the idea of free trade as panacea. That article had a lot of duh-moments for me, but generally I think you can’t be an economist without having your head stuck firmly up your ass. It is interesting, if wholly uncharacteristic, that one or two of them are starting to grope toward an idea that’s been obvious to me since I was 10. “Hang on… laissez-faire capitalism only benefits a few filthy-rich people, while leaving huge swathes of humanity to rot? And that’s a… a bad thing?”
