Maddy’s Bluebell Hat

Okay, it’s 10:30, I’m coming down with a cold, and I still have a lot to do before I can get to bed, so this is a quick n’ dirty copy-paste of the notes I took while I was designing the hat. Please ask questions if you don’t understand something, and I’ll try to clean it up when I get back from Paris.

One important point is that I don’t turn-and-purl, I knit in reverse, and the instructions reflect that. On the even-numbered back-and-forth rows where I say “knit,” I mean knit from left to right, so you’ll probably want to purl. Although if you feel even remotely ready to try knitting in reverse, I really recommend it.

So, last entry, I was working on the left sleeve, and I got as far as decreasing at row 45. So:

• knit to row 48
• row 49, purl 2, p2tg across = 19 stitches
• Cut the yarn.
• Channel-island cast on 19, knit 2 rows (garter stitch)

Fixed the 5-hour baby sweater link, sorry about that. I also fixed a few typos, and in doing so, I noticed that there is no size information in the pattern at ALL. Sheesh. Well, it’s, you know, newborn-sized. Basically. I can’t measure it because I gave it to the baby. The chest circumference at the widest part is 103 stitches, I think, which, if the gauge is correct, means 23 inches or 58 cm, which sounds about right.
